Kendra and I have class right after yoga, so unfortunately we have to cut Tuesday/Thursday classes short to get to class on time. I usually arrive at my 1:25 English class sore, starving, and a little jittery from an abbreviated savasana and too much caffeine. Today the professor started class by talking about a book called Positivity. A main concept of the book is that there’s a “tipping point” between positive and negative, “flourishing” and “languishing,” as Amazon says. We can seek the positive experiences—the ones that give us satisfaction—and reach that “tipping point.” My professor, who is concerned with the quality of undergraduate student life, encouraged us to take a walk with a friend, listen to an album, and do what we might otherwise consider wasting time or procrastinating because the positive feelings we get from enjoying ourselves lead to more positive feelings. Productivity and creativity follow.
Yoga, I realized, is probably one of two positive activities that I actively seek out and make time for. Despite the fact that I can’t practice for as long as I want, the positive outcomes of yoga still power me through the day. Yoga is positive, and yoga engenders more positivity within me.

Sometimes when I lie in savasana (after a class), my lower back feels so uncomfortable that I have to hug my knees into my chest. What gives? I mean, I know that I tend to carry a ton of tension in my lower back, but I’ve been practicing regularly for over a year now and this is still an issue.
Whoa, couldn’t help but reblog this, especially since we’re so savasana-focused here! I definitely have a lot of lower back tension as well, and traditional savasana doesn’t always feel that great to me either. Our instructor has recommended doing reclined bound angle in savasana just for this reason. It might work for you! Last week I did savasana on my stomach and that also helped to relieve some back pain.

is REALLY DIFFICULT. Emma was in a srs ab mood today and oh boy did mine feel it. I still cannot keep my legs fully extended above my hips for a long period of time. ugh.
all in all though, today’s flow was really great despite my foot being weirdly hurty! i love love loved doing yoga to music and it was epic doing warrior 1’s to humble warrior to ‘skinny love’ by bon iver.
