This weekend is the 1 year anniversary of my yoga studio out here in Seattle, and the owner invited me to be in pictures for promo for the studio! I feel so honored and happy to have found a place to practice and call my home base in terms of yoga! Hoping that all of you lovely followers can have a similar sense of grounding in your own practice!

Anonymous asked: Hi! I really want to know more about the eight limbs of yoga but I really do not want to purchase a book that has been written by a white Westerner. I was wondering if any of you all had any suggestions? I'm considering Light on Yoga by Yoga Dipika. I was also thinking of "The Yamas and Niyamas" by Deborah Adele but... I fear her book may be laden with appropriation. I may be wrong....

Dianne Bondy and Chelsea Jackson talk about bringing diversity into the yoga community, a conversation much overdue.
These two women run amazing yoga blogs (chelsealovesyoga.com; diannebondyyoga.com) and it is so inspiring to hear them speak openly about the lack of colored bodies in yoga studios, communities, publications, and conferences.

Cautions with Hot Yoga →
WHY PEOPLE SHOULD BE CAUTIOUS AND INFORMED WHEN DOING HOT YOGA:
*ELASTIC EDGE– our muscles and connective have a finite elastic edge where, once you pass that edge, the tissues simply break (ie tears) … we have sensory mechanisms that help us feel when we are reaching this elastic edge to prevent injury … in hot yoga, the excessive heat can readily dampen these sensory mechanisms allowing us to...

So, in my annual goal-setting phase, I mentioned to my lovely beau that I wanted to learn to enjoy running, because when Seattle is nice out, it’s THE best place to run outside. So many amazing parks! Well, said beau was on the cross country team at his University before, and a “quick run” is usually around 5 miles.
Today, we went to the gym together and while he was hardly...

Consider one afternoon in early June when he had just left a meeting with potential investors in Seattle, having flown to the West Coast after several months of giving Anusara workshops in Tokyo, Taipei, Bali and Morrisville, N.C., and was making a brief stopover in the Woodlands on his way to teach more workshops in Copenhagen, Munich, Paris and Park City, Utah — stops on his “Melt Your Heart,...

Dualism
One of Ken’s latest posts reminded me of dualism. It’s present in yoga and Western philosophy. In Western philosophy, Cartesian dualism has had a huge influence—whenever people say “mind over matter,” that’s to which they’re referring. Cartesian dualism enabled Western science to flourish, but unfortunately, Cartesian dualism is also full of shit.
